Turning first-time diners into regulars, without touching the POS

At a glance - The business: an independent restaurant running a third-party POS. - The mandate: more new customers, more regulars and less waste, without replacing the systems it already used. - What we built: online visibility; targeted campaigns into membership; automated offers and reminders; voucher-based visit tracking; offers timed to cut waste.

The food wasn't the problem

Three things were holding the restaurant back: - It was hard to find. People searching nearby rarely saw it online. - First-timers didn't come back. New diners weren't becoming regulars, and in restaurants that is where the money is. - Food went in the bin. At certain times of day, food was thrown away.

1. Get found first

We fixed how the restaurant shows up online, so that people searching nearby could find it.

2. Ads that lead somewhere

Most restaurant advertising buys a one-off visit with a discount. We did it differently: - Targeted: every campaign was aimed at a specific audience. - Into membership: every click led straight into a membership sign-up. - Measurable: this is also why the new customers can be counted with confidence. Each one arrived through a tracked campaign and membership step.

3. Membership on autopilot

New members receive promotions and discounts straight away. Once it is set up, the programme runs without staff effort.

4. A reason to come back now

Members get timely reminders and limited-time offers, which give them a real reason to return now rather than someday. That is what lifted repeat customers by 70%.

5. Tracking without touching the POS

Integrating with the restaurant's third-party POS would have been slow and expensive, so we didn't do it: - How we track: every voucher redemption records who came in and when. - What it gives the restaurant: a clear picture of member visits, without replacing or connecting to the till.

6. The same offers cut waste

We timed the offers with the kitchen. Different offers ran at different times, steering demand towards the dishes and time slots that would otherwise have produced waste. Food waste fell by 20%.

What we'd tell another restaurant owner

  • Treat every new customer as a future regular. Make membership the first step, not an afterthought.
  • Give members a reason to come back now. Use timely reminders and genuine limited-time offers.
  • Don't let your systems block you. You can measure visits through redemptions without integrating your POS.
  • Make your offers do two jobs: bring people in, and use up what the kitchen would otherwise waste.

Seventy percent more repeat customers, and we never touched the restaurant's till system. The food wasn't the problem. Three things were: people couldn't find the restaurant online, first-time customers weren't coming back, and food was being thrown away. Here's exactly how we fixed it, step by step. First, visibility. The restaurant barely showed up online. We fixed that, so people searching nearby could actually find it. Most restaurant ads buy a one-off visit with a discount. We did it differently. Every ad was tightly targeted, and every click led straight into membership. That's also how we know these were genuinely new customers: each one came in through a tracked campaign. The membership runs itself. New members get promotions and discounts straight away, with no staff effort once it's set up. Then the reminders. Members get a nudge, and a limited-time offer, so there's a real reason to come in now, not someday. That's what drove repeat customers up seventy percent. Here's the expert part. The restaurant runs a third-party POS, and integrating with it would have been slow and expensive. So we didn't. Every voucher redemption tells us who came in and when. Work around the systems a business already has. And the same offers do a second job. We timed them with the kitchen: different offers at different times, steering demand to where food would otherwise be wasted. Food waste fell twenty percent. Getting a new customer is expensive. Getting them back is where restaurants make their money. So every new face becomes a member, and every member gets a reason to return. New customers up thirty percent. Repeat customers up seventy percent. Food waste down twenty percent. And no POS integration needed. You don't need a new system to fill your tables. You need the right steps, in the right order: that's the job. If you run a restaurant, message me on LinkedIn.
